Is a College Education Worth the Expense?

This is a very loaded topic.  For many of us, getting a college education was not even a question.  There seems to be this aura of success around it.  The truth is, a college degree does not guarantee success.  My father has often said that a college degree does not make someone employable.  He has also said that a degree is really just a way to show that you have the ability to learn multiple things and discipline to complete something that takes years.

College is not for everybody and you do not need it to be successful in life.  Steve Jobs is a perfect example of that.  The cost of college is very expensive.  We often times justify the expense saying "it is an investment into ourselves".  While this is true, it is very difficult to quantify.  Education is a life-long pursuit.  Going into $100,000 worth of student loan debt for a degree that only makes $30,000 a year is not a wise investment into yourself.  Especially if you never even use your degree professionally.

I am going to leave you with a great video, by Mike Rowe, that shares some food for thought on the subject.  Just click on the video below.
